I got deployed on the top of a hill, and the ComStar mechs had to charge uphill. Destroying two lances of ComStar mechs thanks to elevation. Not sure if this is from vanilla or what, but I had never seen that before, and while it suck, it was also an awesome urban ambush. Losing 1 LRM carrier because I had clear an urban map, but as I was advancing towards the base, some building destroyed and an Urbanmech appeared from inside the building and one shoot my tank. The game is a little slower, as light mechs or fast vehicles require some careful handling to avoid getting rear shoot by them, and you need 1-2 pilots with Sensor Lock to strip evasion pips if you want to have a chance to hit them until you have trained your pilots to 5-6 Gunnery or have other tools like C3 networks, Targeting Computers. My initial lance of light and medium mechs is supported by a Manticore and a LRM Carrier, and in general I feel the battles are much more balanced. Deploying vehicles along your mechs is incredibly satisfying. I started a game recently with the new version 10, and I'm having a blast. There's some type of invasion thing as time passes, with planets changing hands, but I haven't participated on them so I'm not sure if they have special missions or what.
#BATTLETECH EXTENDED 3025 FULL#
But because you can deploy more things, it feels more fair than vanilla where you had to exploit the AI because you have to fight a full company with a lance. The beginning requires a lot of careful planning. Full mech customization (you can even change engines sizes).

But on the other hand the salvage is much more interesting. A 1* mission against ComStar is much harder than a 1* mission against pirates: ComStar is going to field a lot of Lostech and decently maintained mechs, while the pirates are going to field 3025 designs that are falling apart. Enemy opfors uses different mechs and vehicles depending on their affiliation. Lots of new chassis and weapons (up to 3062 tech I think, includes clan stuff). Multiple new attack modifiers: elevation, mech size difference. You can deploy up to once lance of vehicles.

You can deploy up to two lances of mechs. This is not exactly what you are searching, but once you are ready to change the play experience, I would recommend to use BTA (BattleTech Advanced).
